At press time, more than 49,000 Illinois home care workers were scheduled to get back pay based on a raise that was approved in 2017 by state lawmakers, but was never implemented. Lawmakers approved a 48-cents-an-hour raise for home care workers two years ago, but former Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) refused to pay it, even after courts ruled the raises should be paid, reports the State Journal-Register. State Comptroller Susana Mendoza said she would release money to the state Department of Human Services to make the payments to workers on June 28.
