Industry Note:

State Bill Would Require Hospices To Destroy Pain Meds

Hospice providers in Kentucky may have a new duty added to their already full plates. Hospices would have to adopt policies and procedures for the disposal of powerful prescription painkillers following a patient's death, reports the Associated Press. Patients would have to sign a form allowing the hospice to destroy the meds after the patient's death, or the hospice would notify law enforcement of the patient's refusal to sign after her death, the news service says. The Kentucky state legislature has approved the bill. The bill aims to combat the opioid addiction epidemic.
