Do you think CMS’ proposed emergency preparedness requirement is a bad fit for the unique home care setting? If so, the agency wants to hear about it.
Reminder: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services wants 17 provider types including home health agencies and hospices to implement emergency preparedness plans, it says in the Dec. 27, 2013, Federal Register. Providers’ emergency plans should include four elements, CMS proposes: risk assessment and planning; policies and procedures; communication plan; and training and testing (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXIII, No. 3).
CMS is contemplating modifications for in-dividual provider types, reported the agency’s Jan-ice Graham in the Jan. 22 Open Door Forum for home care providers. "As you review these, you will see whether or not they seem necessary in your particular area," Graham said. "If you have concerns that it might need to be modified, we’re just open to all of those comments."
You’ve got until Feb. 25 to submit comments on the new requirements online at https://federalregister.gov/a/2013-30724.
