Industry Note:
Smart Scheduling Eases Workers' Gas Price Woes
Published on Fri Mar 09, 2012
Gas prices have been on a steep rise since mid-December, and it's taking its toll on home care companies and workers. One way to curb the impact of high fuel prices on your employees is smart scheduling. Heather Yost, owner of a Senior Helpers franchise in Yorba Linda, Calif., uses software that matches caregivers to clients who live closest to each other to save gas, reports The Orange County Register. Gen-erally a caregiver is assigned within five miles of her home, Yost told the newspaper. The U.S. average price of gas was down to nearly $3.20 per gallon in December, but has shot back up to more than $3.79 at press time, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. That's still below the more than $4 per gallon average high last May.
