If you’ve been wondering why you received a rash of takebacks recently, a sequestrationrelated claims glitch might explain it.
The problem: “Some home health and hospice claims with dates of services between April 1, 2016, and April 30, 2016, were processed without the 2 percent sequestration reduction,” HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS says on its website.
The solution: “The issue has been resolved and claims are now applying the sequestration reduction appropriately,” CGS informs providers.
However, “CGS initiated mass adjustments on May 14, 2016, in order to apply the sequestration reduction,” the MAC explains.
How do you know if your adjustment was due to this glitch? “These adjustments will display an ‘I’ as the third digit of the type of bill (e.g., 81I, 32I),” CGS says. “In addition, the ‘Remarks’ field on FISS Page 04 will display the message, ‘Correct possible payment issue onbase 30006225.’”
