Revamped MSN Encourages Bene Fraud Reporting

Home care providers have long complained of Medicare's Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs) confusing beneficiaries. Now there's hope that some of that confusion will abate. CMS has redesigned its MSN "to make Medicare information clearer, more accessible, and easier for beneficiaries and their caregivers to understand," the agency says in a release. "This MSN redesign reflects more than 18 months of research and feedback from beneficiaries to provide enhanced customer service and respond to suggestions and input." One reason for the MSN revision is to boost fraud reporting, CMS maintains. "The statement is easier to understand and navigate, and makes clear what information to check and how to report potential fraud," CMS Acting Administrator Marilyn Tavenner says in the release. The redesigned MSN is available to beneficiaries on mymedicare.gov, CMS notes.
