Quick Quiz: Can You Appeal A Rejected Claim? Find Out Here

If you’re not quite sure when to appeal a Medicare claim, you’re not alone. HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS "has seen an in-crease in appeal requests for claims that cannot be appealed," it says on its website.

Tip: "To appeal a claim, it must be denied (status/location D B9997) or partially denied (P B9997)," CGS explains. "Rejected claims (R B9997) cannot be appealed."

More information on appeals is on a new CGS web page, "Determining Appropriate Appeal Requests," at www.cgsmedicare.com/hhh/appeals/detappreq.html.
