Industry Note:

Providers Gain Much-Needed Breathing Room On Employer Mandate

Many home care providers are breathing a sigh of relief at the latest Obamacare delay. Small businesses with fewer than 100 full time em-ployees will not have to comply with the Affordable Care Act employer mandate until 2016 — a one-year delay, the White House has announced.

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice’s Val Halamandaris commends the Obama Administration for "listening to the pleas of the American public — including the home care and hospice community."

Larger companies are also getting a delay. Companies employing 100 or more full time workers must provide health insurance to 70 percent of full-time employees by 2015 and 95 percent of full-time workers by 2016.

Reminder: Workers with fewer than 50 full time workers are exempt from the employer mandate.

Ahead: NAHC is still lobbying to secure change to the definition of full time worker. The trade group wants the threshold raised from 30 hours per week to 40 hours per week.
