Three medical clinic personnel in Houston have been indicted on fraud charges related to home care, says the Department of Justice. The indictment alleges that Douglas Sharp, D.O., the medical director of Verimed Health and Medical Wellness Clinic Inc.; Innad Husaini, M.D., the owner and operator of Verimed; and Hanh Hong Thi Nguyen, the former operator of Verimed, submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid for multiple types of services, including “home health services,” the DOJ says in a release. Medicare paid about $12.2 million and Medicaid paid about $67,000 in the scheme. “The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of two properties owned by Nguyen and one property owned by Husaini, which were paid for, at least in part, using proceeds of the alleged fraud,” the DOJ says.
