Physician Draws 18 Months For Home Care Fraud

A physician who pled guilty in one of the high-profile home care fraud schemes in Detroit has received an 18-month prison sentence.

In January, Dr. Paul Kelly pled guilty to signing home care referrals for Moonlite Home Care Inc. in Livonia, Mich., the Department of Justice says in a release. Kelly certified Medicare beneficiaries as homebound when he had never examined or met the beneficiaries, who were not homebound, prosecutors said.

In addition to his prison term, Kelly was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $582,912 in restitution.
