Personal Care Business Owner Nabbed For False Respite Care Claims

An in-home personal care business owner pled guilty to charges that she submitted false claims for respite care, allegedly defrauding Medicaid of nearly $300,000.

Angie Gilchrist was the owner of A-Z Alpha Omega In-Home Personal Care Service LLC in Suffolk, Va. Gilchrist purportedly submitted 385 fraudulent claims to Medicaid for respite care to 38 beneficiaries, when no such care was actually provided, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Gilchrist pled guilty to health care fraud in federal court and will face sentencing on May 22. She could receive up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
