Industry Note:

Observe These New Rules For 5010 Claims

Don't let technical oversights lead to claims rejections when Medicare starts enforcing the 5010 claims format after June 30.For example: You must use a nine-digit ZIP code for the billing provider and your locations, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reminds in a message to providers. And you must use a physical address, not a PO Box, for the billing provider address.Plus: You have to use your National Pro-vider Identifier (NPI) number as your primary identifier, CMS stresses. You'll no longer be able to use your Tax ID or Social Security Number. To get more information on 5010, register for your CMS Regional Office's June 20 webinar on the topic at http://registration.intercall.com/go/cms2. CMS is offering three separate webinars in the Eastern, Central, and Mountain-Pacific regions.
