Detroit-area home health agency owner Zahir Shah had pled guilty to Medicare fraud charges in an $8 million scam, the Department of Justice says. Shah admitted to submitting false certifications to enroll and stay enrolled as a Medicare provider; paying illegal kickbacks to recruiters in exchange for Medicare beneficiary referrals; and billing Medicare for claims procured through these illegal kickbacks. The misdeeds took place over a 10-year period starting in 2007, according to the DOJ. Shah awaits sentencing.
