Industry Note:

Medicare Scammers Target Diabetes Patients

You might want to give your diabetes patients a heads up that a new scam targeting them is going around. "The scheme generally involves someone pretending to be from the government, a diabetes association, or even Medicare, calling you," the HHS Office of Inspector General explains in a new fraud alert. The caller offers "free" diabetic supplies, and possibly other types of supplies, in exchange for the beneficiary's Medicare or financial information, or even just confirmation of this type of personal information. Victims may also receive items they didn't order in the mail. If beneficiaries receive this type of call, they should take steps ranging from not giving our their information to reporting the caller to law enforcement, the OIG advises in the alert.
