Medicare Audit Dogs California Hospice

Beware: You may have to fight a reputational problem as well as a financial one if you violate Medicare rules. That's what San Diego Hospice is discovering as news of a Medicare audit examining eligibility grabs local headlines. The hospice may have to pay Medicare back millions of dollars, lay off up to 200 of its nearly 900 workers, and has dismissed or seen top execs resign, according to press reports.Hospices nationwide are seeing similar audits, reports the U-T San Diego newspaper.
