Industry Note:

Medicaid Fraud Control Units Rack Up Indictments

It’s not just federal authorities who will be scrutinizing you for fraud. State Medicaid Fraud Control Units (MFCUs) were responsible for 1,721 indictments, 1,564 convictions, and $1.8 billion in criminal and civil recoveries in 2016, the HHS Office of Inspector says.

The leader in civil settlements and judgments was Colorado with 97, while Indiana led the pack in investigations with 1,745. California was close behind with 1,735 investigations.

California was the decisive leader in indictments with 231. Ohio was next in line with 122 indictments. For convictions, California again led with 173 and Ohio was second with 126.
