MACs Are Back To Assessing Hospice Cap Overpayments

Hospices' vacation from cap-related overpayments is over. CMS has sent a directive to HHH MACs to resume calculating hospice cap amounts and assessing overpayments when applicable, reports NAHC. CMS also told MACs to inform hospices about the cap calculation methodology, and several contractors already have done so.For example: "All hospice aggregate cap calculations shall be calculated using the patient-by-patient proportional methodology for cap year ending on October 31, 2012, and all subsequent years," explains HHH MAC CGS in its message to hospices sent May 17. "Hospices that are under the streamlined method and have not appealed their cap determinations may elect a one-time option to remain under the streamlined method."
