Don’t make extra work for yourself and risk reimbursement delays when you don’t have to. That’s the takeaway from a frequently asked question about hospice Notice of Election changes updated last month.
“If the information on the NOE has simply changed or a keying error occurred, the NOE does not need to be canceled and resubmitted,” HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS says in the FAQ. “Instead, corrections to diagnosis codes and certifying physicians on the NOE may be made on subsequent claims.”
“Since there is no editing in Medicare Systems that ensures the diagnosis codes and certifying physicians on hospice claims match the NOE, hospices can correct diagnosis coding and certifying physician errors on subsequent claims, without cancelling the NOE,” CGS continues in the FAQ at http://cgsmedicare.com/hhh/education/faqs/cr_8877_faqs.html.
