Industry Note:

Long-Term Care Giant Makes Home Care Buy

Long-term care giant Kindred Healthcare Inc. has made another home care acquisition, this time in Massachusetts. Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred will buy Synergy Home Health Care Inc. with locations in Marlborough and Weymouth, serving the Boston area, for undisclosed terms.

Synergy has annual revenues of about $5 million, Kindred says in a release. Kindred's Peoplefirst HomeCare and Hospice currently provides hospice services in Massachusetts as well as home health and hospice services in Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Nevada, Ohio, and Utah, the company notes. Kindred bought Ohio locations last year (see Eli's HCW, Vol. XIX, No. 39) and West Coast operations earlier this year (see Eli's HCW, Vol. XX, No. 30).

"We are excited about the opportunities provided by our growing home health and hospice business to expand our continuum of post-acute care services and to continue the care for our patients and residents in several of our key cluster markets," Kindred CEO Paul Diaz says in the release.
