Lawmakers Propose OT Changes In Home Care

Home health agencies have a lot on their minds with the HHGM proposal looming, but longer-standing issues still need action as well. For instance: Reps. Pat Meehan (R-Pennsylvania), Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Ryan Costello (R-Pennsylvania), and Paul Tonko (D-New York) have introduced the Medicare Home Heath Flexibility Act (H.R. 3820), a bill that would allow occupational therapists to open home health therapy cases by conducting the initial assessment and completing the required comprehensive assessments under Medicare, reports the American Occupational Therapy Association. Sens. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) and Ben Cardin (D-Maryland) introduced companion legislation (S. 977) in the Senate in April.
