Law Firms File Shareholder Lawsuits Against VITAS

Fresh on the heels of the unsealed whistleblower lawsuit against AseraCare Hospice, law firms are filing stockholder class action lawsuits against VITAS Hospice parent Chemed Corp. Suits from law firms Bernstein Liebhard and Izard Nobel allege a laundry list of misdeeds, including enrolling ineligible patients and overstating earnings due to fraud. Stock prices fell when a November 2011 Bloomberg news article discussed a complaint from a former VITAS manager that the company conspired with HMOs to enroll non-terminal patients in hospice, says the Bernstein release.
