LA Owner To Pay $15 Million To Settle Fraud Charges

A federal judge has ordered a Los Ange-les HHA owner who pled guilty to Medicare fraud last summer to repay $15 million.

GreatCare Home Health Agency owner Hee Jung Mun, commonly known as Angela Mun, paid kickbacks to physicians, marketers, and beneficiaries themselves for referrals. Then the agency billed Medicare for home care services that were medically unnecessary or never provided, the De-partment of Justice says in a release.

One physician in the case pled guilty to kickback charges and was sentenced to a year in jail, while another agreed to pay $218,000 to settle charges in the case. The lawsuit arose from a whistleblower complaint filed by the agency’s receptionist, the DOJ notes.
