Kindred Acquires Florida, South Carolina Providers

Kindred Healthcare Inc. is expending its home care and hospice presence after buying Gentiva last year. The Louisville, Ky.-based company paid the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control about $18 million for licenses to provide home health services in all 46 counties in South Carolina. The agreement that took effect Jan. 1 grows Kindred’s presence in the state from 10 to 19 offices, with plans to expand further. Kindred gained 72 employees and 650 patients in the deal, it says in a release.

Kindred also has acquired Samaritan Care Hospice of Osceola Inc. in Orlando. The location, now operating as Kindred at Home Hospice, joins Kindred’s existing six home health locations in the Orlando area, the company says. Kindred at Home has about 626 home health, hospice and non-medical home care sites of service.
