Keep Your Mind Open To Non-Traditional Biz Lines

If you're looking for ways to keep your home care organization healthy, you shouldn't overlook business lines outside of the usual government- reimbursed mainstream.

For example: Waterville, Maine-based Care & Comfort has started a new division, "Home Modification Specialists of Maine," which does everything from building ramps to remodeling rooms and building entire houses, reports the Morning Sentinel newspaper. The 20-year-old agency also offers skilled and private duty home care, and various mental health servicess.

Owner Susan Giguere started the agency with $2,000 and two employees, and it now has morethan $10 million in annual revenues and 475 employees in five locations around the state, the newspaper says. About 85 percent of the agency's business comes the MaineCare Medicaid program.
