Insurer Gets Into Home Care Business

Insurer Cigna Corp. is getting into the home care business, although it’s home care provided by physicians instead of home health agencies. Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna has acquired Chicago-based Alegis Care, which furnishes a number of physician services to homebound Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, Cigna says in a release.

Alegis Care will provide services to nearly 31,000 seniors across 10 states, Cigna says. "Cigna plans to leverage Alegis Care capabilities and services for its broad base of Medicare Advantage customers with the goal of improving the quality of service while reducing cost," the insurer adds.
