Home care icon and National Association for Home Care & Hospice President Val Halamandaris has passed away. “Val worked tirelessly for 50 years to improve the lives and secure the rights of America’s elderly and infirm,” NAHC says in a release. “Val was instrumental in the creation of the home health benefit in Medicaid and Medicare as well as federal standards for nursing home care,” the Partnership for Quality Home Healthcare says in a release. “As the founder and president of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice, he stood as the biggest protector, strongest fighter and loudest voice for 33,000 home care and hospice organizations, as well as the millions of Americans who depend on their care.”
