More hospitals are closing their home care units. In Nebraska: Methodist Hospital in Omaha is closing its home health and hospice program and transferring patients to the Visiting Nurse Association, according to press reports. "We took a hard look at continuing to be a small program or partnering with a much larger provider," a hospital official said. Methodist's agency had a census of about 70 patients, while the VNA sees about 2,000 patients per day. In Missouri: Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond is considering closing its home health program, reports the Richmond Daily News. The hospital's board of directors is set to vote on the matter March 15. The program has a "significant bottom-line loss," the newspaper says.
