Telehealth is helpful, but isn’t the answer to hospices’ COVID-19-related problems, indicates a new survey. More than 84 percent of hospices responding to a May National Association for Home Care & Hospice survey are using telecommunications technology to provide services to Medicare hospice patients, the trade group reports. But nearly 24 percent of the survey participants were able to substitute virtual visits in only limited or no cases, NAHC reports. Meanwhile, hospices’ bottom lines may bottom out. Sixty percent of hospices in the nation-wide survey anticipate a decrease in annual revenues this year, with 28 percent expecting a decrease of 15 percent or more, NAHC says.
