Home Health Workers Union President Convicted Of Embezzlement

A former home care union president was convicted of embezzlement while he headed the Southern California-based Service Employees International Union, which had close ties to California United Homecare Workers. CUHW is a union for the state’s home health workers. Freeman allegedly stole money from the CUHW, reports the Lake County News.

A federal court jury convicted Tyrone Ricky Freeman on four counts of mail fraud, seven counts of embezzlement and/or theft of union assets, two counts of subscribing to a false tax return, and one count of making a false statement to a federally insured financial institution, the News states. A district court will sentence Freeman on April 22, where he could face up to 10 years in prison for each count of embezzlement, 20 years for each mail-fraud count, 30 years for each false-statement count, and three years for the false tax return charge.
