If you’re a little confused about the new home infusion benefit that CMS has proposed in the 2019 HH PPS proposed rule, you’re not alone. Multiple attendees of the July 11 Home Health Open Door Forum asked CMS about that provision. Important note: Home health agencies will not qualify to receive the transitional home infusion payments that CMS is proposing for 2019 and 2020, a CMS rep explained. They will, however, be able to become infusion providers under the new benefit that is proposed to begin in 2021. However: To be a qualified infusion supplier under the permanent benefit, an agency would have to be accredited by an infusion therapy accrediting organization approved by CMS, the rule proposes and a CMS official confirmed in the forum.
