HHA owners were convicted of defrauding Medicaid and aggravated identity theft, over the course of at least a three-year period, reports the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. At the upcoming sentencing, Irvine Johnston King and Aisha Rashidatu King could face up to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to commit health care fraud and 10 years in prison for each of the 22 counts of health care fraud. The Kings will also face a consecutive mandatory penalty of two years in prison for each of the two counts of aggravated identity theft.
The couple owned and operated Bright Beginnings Healthcare Services, a home health and private-duty nursing agency in Woodbridge, Va. The Kings allegedly submitted fraudulent claims to Medicaid for services never provided, fabricated documentation for an audit, and instructed employees to lie to Medicaid and patients about billed claims. The Kings also unlawfully used the names, birthdates and insurance identification numbers of patients on Medicaid claims, the Office alleges.
