HHA Owner To Serve 75 Months In Prison For Fraud, Identity Theft

An HHA owner gets 75 months in prison for health care fraud, alteration of records and aggravated identity theft, for allegedly filing 939 fraudulent Medicaid claims, reports the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. Janice Holland was the owner and operator of A Caring Hand Home Health Services, Inc., an HHA in Suffolk, Va.

From January 2008 to October 2011, Holland purportedly submitted false claims for respite care to Medicaid, illegally using the individuals’ names, dates of birth and Medicaid identification numbers. Holland also allegedly falsified office records to cover up the false billings. Medicaid paid out more than $630,000 in fraudulent claims to the HHA.

Holland pled guilty to the charges back in September 2012 and was sentenced on Jan. 22, 2013. The 75-month sentence includes 51 months in prison for the fraud and records alteration charges, as well as 24 months for the identity theft charge.
