HH Market Saturation Thins While Hospice Thickens
Just how crowded is your market? You can get the official stats from Medicare's market saturation and utilization lookup tool at https://data.cms.gov/market-saturation/files. The CMS site furnishes updated data from the latest year period ending March 31, 2017. Users can choose to view data by number of providers, number of beneficiaries, and more data elements. And in a new trend analysis, CMS notes that home health market saturation is down by 7.31 percent when measuring providers per county, while hospice saturation is up 12.84 percent under the same metric. "The market saturation data is used by the CMS to aid in identification of areas of the country prone to waste and abuse," warns the National Association for Home Care & Hospice in its member newsletter. "Moratoria on new home health providers exist in Texas, Florida, Illinois, and Michigan."
