An NPI-related claims glitch may be disrupting your payments.
Problem: “Palmetto GBA is aware of an issue with the National Provider Identifier (NPI) falling off the crosswalk for a very limited number of home health and hospice providers,” the HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor says on its website. “This is causing home health billing requests for anticipated payment (RAPs) and claims, hospice Notices of Election (NOEs) and claims not to process. In addition, providers are unable to view the claims affected by this issue.”
Solution: The issue is in research, but “if an NOE is submitted untimely due to this exact issue, the exception request will be granted when the exception is filed on the claim,” Palmetto says.
“Please continue to submit NOEs within five days from the date of election.” When hospices request an exception after the issue is corrected, “enter the following in the remarks section of the claim ‘Please process this late NOE exception request due to a PECOS issue that was out of our control. Our provider NPI/PTAN was incorrectly dropped from the crosswalk,’” Palmetto instructs. “We will then confirm that your agency was affected by the issue.”
