Give Your Patients This Advice If They Accidentally Throw Away Their New MBI-Based Medicare Cards

Your patients receive so much junk mail, it’s hard to blame them for accidentally tossing valid mail by mistake. But what should they do if they pitched their new Medicare card that replaced the Social Security Number with the Medicare Beneficiary Identifier?

“Ask them to call 1-800-MEDICARE and request a replacement,” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services advises on its website.

Alternative: “Your patients can also sign into MyMedicare.gov to print an official card,” CMS adds. “They must create an account if they do not already have one.”
