Not sure which number to put at the top of your Notice of Medicare Non Coverage (NOMNC)? An HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor has the answer.
Problem: There is an inconsistency between the instructions for the NOMNC in Change Request (CR) 7903 and the NOMNC form instructions, MAC NHIC says in a newly posted question-and-answer set from its Aug. 20 Home Health Notices Virtual Room educational session. "The NOMNC form instructions state that the patient number entered at the top of the form should not be the Medicare number. CR 7903 states the Medicare number must be entered."
Solution: "The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has confirmed that the instructions included with the NOMNC form are correct," NHIC says. "The patient number entered at the top of the NOMNC should be a medical record number or some other identifier but should not be the Medicare number."
