Medicare is moving forward with its hospice patient assessment tool, even if that progress is not on the originally proposed timeline. Reminder: In the 2019 final rule for hospice payment and a July Open Door Forum, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services indicated it was pulling back on its plan to conduct a second, larger pilot test of the Hospice Evaluation and Assessment Reporting Tool this fall (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXVII, No. 27). Now CMS has announced the details of its Sept. 26 Special Open Door Forum to “provide a status update” on HEART and take questions, according to a forum notice. The forum is part of CMS’s effort to capture “significant interaction between CMS and stakeholders” over the tool, according to the HEART webpage. A link to the forum notice with dial-in information is in the “Downloads” box at www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/Hospice-Quality-Reporting/HEART.html.
