Get Familiar With This Medical Review Contractor -- Yes, Another One

Don’t let an outdated address cause SMRC denials. You need to check and, if necessary, update your address in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES), since the Supplemental Medical Review/Specialty Contractor uses the addresses in NPPES to send additional development requests (ADRs) for medical records, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services notes.

Also: If you don’t know your SMRC, it’s Strategic Health Solutions, CMS adds. “Providers may not be responding to the requests, because they do not know about the SMRC,” the agency says.
