Being under so much medical review, home care and hospice providers are getting hit with overpayment letters and recoupments right and left. A new job aid from HHH MAC Palmetto GBA can help them through the process.
Providers receive different types of letters depending on what kind of contractor is assessing the overpayment, Palmetto explains in the aid.
Keep it straight: "If Palmetto GBA or the Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) contractor conducted the review, Palmetto GBA will send a Teaching and Instruction for Providers (TIP)," the MAC explains. "If the Recovery Auditor (RA) contractor conducted a complex review, the RA contactor will send a review results letter. If the RA contractor conducted an automated review, a review results letter is not sent. If the Zone Program Integrity Contractor (ZPIC) conducted the review, the ZPIC will send a results letter."
Palmetto details the process ranging from notification to appeals at www.palmettogba.com/ palmetto/palmetto.nsf — click on "J11 MAC – Home Health and Hospice" in the left column, then choose "Job Aids" in the drop-down menu below "Learning & Education," then choose "Section 935 Overpayment Recoupment Process" on Jan. 15.
