Federal Jury Finds Miami HHA Owner/Manager Guilty Of Medicare Fraud

The man who managed Willsand Home Health Agency Inc. and owned JEM Home Health Care and Healthy Choice Home Health Services Inc., all in Miami-Dade County, has been convicted of Medicare fraud, the Department of Justice says in a release. Evidence in the trial showed that between 2006 and 2013, Khaled Elbeblawy and his co-conspirators used the three HHAs to submit $57 million in false claims based on services that were not medically necessary, not actually provided and were for patients procured through the payment of kickbacks to doctors and patient recruiters.

Willsand owner Eulises Escalona pled guilty in the scheme and received a 10-year jail term and an order to pay $27 million in restitution in 2012 (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXI, No. 27).
