The QIES system is undergoing a revamp, including a modification to its name. “Quality Improvement and Evaluation System” will add “Internet” to the front of its name, making it “iQIES,” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in a message to providers. And that name change reflects the fact that users will no longer need a virtual private network (VPN) or CMSNet to access the system. “iQIES is Internet-facing and maintains the latest system architecture and security standards,” CMS says. Another operational change is “system enhancements [that] support flexible and user-friendly data reports for providers, allowing them to use real-time data for care planning as well as quality monitoring and improvement,” according to CMS. “Users can access important information for work anywhere, at any time, on mobile devices, laptops, and tablets,” the agency emphasizes. Stay tuned for more iQIES details “soon,” CMS urges.
