DME Bidding Areas Will Reach 100 By 2013

Bidding registration is now open. Chances are your patients' choice of durable medical equipment suppliers will narrow drastically in July 2013. That's because CMS will implement competitive bidding in 91 new areas that month. Bidding already takes place in nine metro areas. Deadline: DME suppliers in the 91 areas should register their authorized official for bidding by Dec. 22, CMS says in an e-mail message to suppliers. "Suppliers that do not register will not be able to bid," the agency warns. Bidding will open Jan. 30 for 60 days. CMS will begin contracting with bid winners in Fall 2012 and announce the final suppliers the following spring, CMS says in a fact sheet.
