Combat High GIP Claim Denial Rate With New MAC Education

The hospice General Inpatient (GIP) level of care is under heavy scrutiny, so a new educational resource might be just the ticket to safeguard your rightful reimbursement. Nearly 30 percent of GIP claims are denied in medical review, HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor Palmetto GBA notes in the video. GIP “is for pain control or symptom management provided in an inpatient facility that cannot be managed in other settings,” Palmetto explains on its website. The MAC has posted a video that “discusses resources that will assist hospice providers with proper documentation of the GIP level of care,” it says.
