Congress is one step closer to confirming Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Act-ing Administrator Marilyn Tavenner as the official head of the agency. The Senate Finance Committee approved her nomination April 23, clearing the path for a full Senate vote.
If the full Senate confirms the former nurse and hospital executive, it will be the first time CMS has an officially approved leader in seven years. The last Administrator was Mark McClellan from 2004 to 2006.
Observers expect the Senate to confirm Tavenner with a minimum of controversy.
