CDC Offers New Tools For Flu Prevention Education Aimed At Seniors

Add these new resources to your flu-prevention toolkit. The National Council on Aging has undertaken a new initiative to help protect older adults from influenza this upcoming flu season. "Each year in the United States about nine out of 10 flu-related deaths and more than six out of 10 flu-related hospital stays occur in people over the age of 65," the NCOA says in a release.Central to the initiative is promoting an understanding of how aging affects the body's ability to fight infection. But older adults and their caregivers can take simple steps to help protect against influenza, the NCOA says. Key to prevention efforts is getting a flu shot.The Flu + You toolkit includes a how-to guide with step-by-step tips for educating older adults about the flu, handouts, and customizable communication materials.
