Industry Note:

Avoid This Costly Human Resources Mistake

Are you asking employees and applicants about their family medical history? Then you may be risking a lawsuit.

BNV Home Care Agency Inc. in New York City, will pay $125,000 to settle a genetic discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, EEOC says in a release.
BNV “engaged in the unlawful practice of collecting employees’ and applicants’ genetic information by asking them questions about their family medical history on an employee health assessment form,” according to EEOC’s lawsuit.
