Avoid Claims Error Hit List With MAC Tool
Submit claims with errors frequently, and you could wind up on Medicare’s hit list.
"As a Medicare provider you are responsible to ensure the information submitted on your claims is correct and compliant with Medicare regulations," HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor Palmetto GBA says on its website. "You should be aware that action may be taken when you demonstrate a pattern of submitting claims inappropriately, incorrectly or erroneously."
Get help: Palmetto has updated its Home Health and Hospice Claims Submission Error Help look up tool to assist providers in submitting claims right the first time. The tool "includes resources for assisting in resolving and preventing the top claim submission errors made by home health and hospice providers," Palmetto explains. "Providers can access reasons for errors and tips for correcting claims in plain language."
The tool includes language tailored for home care and hospice providers, instead of the language included for other bill types in the FISS or DDE systems, Palmetto adds. "Providers can either scroll through reason codes in numerical order or use the Palmetto GBA search engine to search by reason code."
To access the tool, go to www.palmettogba. com/medicare, click on "J11 MAC – Home Health and Hospice" in the left column, then click on "Claims Submission Error Help" in the "Self-Service Tools" box.
