Another Texas Hospital Sells HH Unit

In Texas, the Gainesville Hospital District board has voted to sell North Texas Medical Center’s home health operations for $500,000 to Tyler-based Choice Rehab, reports the Gainesville Daily Register newspaper. Choice Rehab’s home health business is Choice Home Care.

Choice will manage the agency for 20 months for a fee of $25,000 per month which will be credited toward the purchase price rather than paid, the Daily Register explains.

“We’re getting out of the home health business,” hospital exec Jim Kendrick said in a board meeting. “We’re putting it into the hands of someone who does this well … and has committed to continue to operate for at least five years, and is taking away any potential future risk from the time that we move forward,” Kendrick added, according to the newspaper. “There won’t be any risk associated with home health regulations that would impact the hospital,” said Kendrick, who also alluded to PDGM changes coming next year as motivating the sale.
