Industry Note:

Along With The New Year Comes A New Form I-9

Make sure you’re using this updated employment form or risk fines.

“Agencies must start using the new Form I-9 (dated 11/14/2016) by no later than January 22, 2017,” advises Gilliland, Maguire & Harper in Indianapolis. “Agencies that use expired forms after January 21st risk potential fines under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, even if the expired form is otherwise completed accurately,” the law firm warns.

Reminder: “The Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States,” says the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. “All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens.”
