If you don't do your best to prevent workplace violence for your employees, you may pay at survey time as well as in human resource costs. The Joint Commission has issued a new Sentinel Event Alert on workplace violence. While emergency rooms and inpatient psych settings have the worst rates of violence against health care workers, "the home care setting presents particular challenges because this environment is less controlled than other health care settings," the Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois-based accrediting body says in the Alert. "Sixty-one percent of home care workers report workplace violence each year."
